the AGENDA

We have been seriously M.I.A. on the blog front lately, but we are trying to get back on board.  So I just rolled back up to my house (10:30 in the P.M.) and wanted to take a few mintues to fill you in on what's going on in the next few weeks at the Davis residence.
ORGANIZING...
First of all we are still trying to get everything out and cleaned up at the previous place and of course organzing here...I think that goes without saying.  Oraginzing will be on the agenda for quite a while.
BIRTHDAYS...
Coming up this month (September) we have several birthdays including the dream daughters.  This year she will be turing the big FOUR!  To celebrate we are taking a fam vaca to Disney World.  I just had a wonderful costume made for her to wear to breakfast with the princess' by my friend over at Baby Cakes, I will do a post just for this later this week.  If you want to get a sneak peak you can check her out at her website or on facebook.  Of course we will be having a gathering forthe dream daughter and her friends when we return, I am thinking of a fall/pumpkin theme, so there will be many post soon about that!
NEW, NEW, NEW...
I have also purchased several new pieces for the house that I can't wait to share!   I found several of the pieces here, my new favorite store in the G-town
DESIGN STUFF...
On top of all of that I am currently trying to help a few new clients and come up with a fabulous fall class for my ladies at Sun City. (I didn't forget about you ladies, just taking the summer off!)
TOMORROW, TOMORROW, I LOVE YOU TOMORROW (but really only when tomorrow is friday)
Tomorrow after we return from dance class at the dream daughter's new dance studio, I will be sure to sit down and post a picture or two!  Until then...good night, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite!

Almost TWO weeks

Friday will mark two weeks since the big move to our new home.  It has been very eventful to say the very least.  But there isn't much in this family that isn't VERY eventful.  We are loving our new home!!

We had to spend the last few nights at the parent's house because our AC went out and we couldn't sleep in the heat. Now we have a brand spankin new unit and it's freezing up in here!  I should be back to blogging now and I already have a few lined up. But until I have a little more time to write a good post, here are a few pics of my new favorite piece!
I purchased this over the weekend!!
It was a whopping $48!
LOVE IT!
Our fam picture on an old rusty bridge went perfectly over it!
Can't wait to share more!!

It's a disaster zone, but it's progress...

I know I've been MIA for a week or so, but I thought I would take a break and post a few progress pics.  I am still painting, but I think today is my last day.  I am going to get help to finish (as in hire someone).  I have been painting for 3 weekends straight and I'm just so done.  I do, however, love how it's turning out and think I'm going to continue this gray color into my bedroom!

So, here are a few snapshots of the disaster zone which I am hoping will be a little further along by our little housewarming party on September 12th.

It's really hard to take pictures of our spare bathroom because it's SO tiny, but here is the best I can get.  The ceilings are nine feet and I was on a hunt for a nine foot long shower curtain, but my only option was to get one custom made to the tune of $150....or so I thought.  I came across this curtain panel (window) at Pottery Barn for $30 and the size is right!  It will not close all the way, but I don't really care :)  I have ordered a 108" long sheer shower curtain to go behind it for the function of actually taking a shower, but that room doesn't get much use, so it's fine for now!  Whatya think?

It will have to stay open like this.  I picked up that framed botanical for $11.

The living room is almost done (the walls that is).  I need one more coat on the ceiling.  The plan for this room is to flip flop the TV on to the opposite wall, hang it on the wall and finish that TV console to have the look of a restoration hardware piece.  I need to paint the coffee table, install crown molding, add curtains, and find a rug.  Whew, seems like alot when it's all typed out!

This is my disaster of a dining room.  I have no idea what the plan is for this room...to be honest.

Here is the breakfast area.  I got those bypass shutters custom made from Budget Blinds and they are so functional.  They slide back and forth and {to me} look sooooooo much better than the standard vertical blind.

Here they are closed...

The hallway is the most complete as far as painting.  I'm going to paint that door a glossy black just like the front door which I finally opted to keep black more due to a lack of being able to make a decision on another color than anything else.  I think I might strip that bookcase down to natural wood before I accessorize it---in year 2030.  ha ha.

Kitchen

more of the kitchen

This is the tiniest little hallway that leads to the guest bedrooms and bathroom and is THE ONLY space that is fully painted.  Again, hard to take pictures in this teeny weeny little space.

I picked this chandelier up yesterday for $75!  I think it will be cute...just not sure where.  I need some small black drum shades, then it's good to go!  I'm contemplating in the breakfast area???  Anything is better than those builder standard brushed nickel jobs.  ewe...

So there you have it.  I have a LOT of work to do, so I gotta get back to it.  Hopefully the next post will show that my house has transformed from a total construction zone into something somewhat habitable.

Happy Saturday!

Coming Soon...

As you heard before, we [as in Adam, Fallon and Phoebe] have been looking for a new home.  We finally found one and moved in over the weekend.  We waited over a year for this exact house...more on that to come.  However, I do not have internet access yet.  As soon as I am up and running again, I will give you a sneak peak at our dream home!  I can see many DIY projects in our future!!!

i need a painter

So, I took today off from the blue cube to paint.  Remember a few weeks ago when I started to paint the main part of our house (800sf) walls and ceilings gray?  Well, today will be my third day dedicated to painting.  This morning I was all jazzed to get going, but somehow between errands and chores, I didn't get started until 1pm--annoying.  Then, after my sweet dog Oz walked through the paint and tracked paw prints over the wood floors, I had breakdown #1 for the day.  I called Drew screaming that I needed help.  He sounded helpless and confused at why I was so angry.  I called a professional painter and had them come quote the job.  $550 for labor only.  So, I got back to work motivated that I was saving $550!  That lasted for about 30 minutes until my roller broke.  Breakdown #2.  I called Drew again.  He told me to go get him a roller and he would help me when I got home.  I got distracted and started cleaning the bathroom in all my fury.  He got home ready to help.  I had cleaned the supplies to paint, was physically and mentally exhausted and still hadn't gone to get the roller.  So, I will be starting back up tomorrow.  I haven't finished one room yet and my house is a disaster.  I know I need to remember how lucky I am to have my dream house and be able to work on it, but I really just want someone to swoop in and finish off this bite that I can't chew.  If I can move my arms tomorrow (I painted a lot of ceiling today), I'll take progress pics and post 'em for y'all.  My goal is to get the living room COMPLETE = 2 coats, trimmed out, ceiling painted this weekend and I'm praying to the sweet lord that I can do it all tomorrow.

Here are some pretty pics just to inspire me that I really do want to finish painting and make my house as purty as one of these someday....

This inspired "to-do" #87 on my list- built in bench seating in the dining room.  How comfy and functional!

Here's another one.  I'm all about maximizing space so we never have to move and I think something like this really does the trick.  It might also help my delimma of having no architectural interest in the dining room which is mostly wall space.

I need an oversized light like this

I guess that's all for now.  I'm going to finish watching 'JARHEAD' and go night night!

ps.  I'm only half kidding with all the negativity.  I really was overwhelmed today, but I am so very in love with the way the gray looks and there is nothing I would rather be doing than working on our home  :)

A little glitter

The dream daughter is always begging to do an arts and crafts project.  This usually becomes a major clean up because she always needs glue, glitter, beads and buttons!  So when she found out that Aunt Jess was going to be in town for her 30th birthday, nothing was going to satisfy her until she had made Aunt Jess an arts and crafts project.

I decided on a frame but the dream daughter gets to decide on everything else including the picture.  First she painted the frame, then she glittered it [and my bedroom floor- not a good project to do on the carpet]

followed by a few scrap booking stickers including Aunt Jess' favorite, an owl.

I think it turned out just beautiful and Aunt Jess was pretty excited about her new work of art!

Time Flies...

Try to be the first one up the mountain,

The highest flying dreamer in the sky.
Try your best to be an inspiration

For others that are still afraid and shy.

Try to make the most of every moment
If you fail, get up and try again.

Try each day a little harder

If you never try, you never win.
